The Palatinate Forest is a climbing area rich in tradition, 1where climbing has been going on for over 100 years on more than 80 peaks and 200 massifs made of red sandstone. The climbing area is mainly located in the southern Wasgau, although nowadays the climbing gardens in the former quarries on the Haardtrand as well as bouldering are becoming increasingly popular. The walls and towers, some of which are over 60 metres high, in a charming low mountain landscape make the Southern Palatinate one of the most important climbing areas in Germany.
